The Beginning

Dear LiveJournal,

The other day Hutch had the terrible idea of actually starting a real LiveJournal account and I ran with it because I apparently like bad ideas. I'm sure one day bad ideas will be my demise. I promise to try and keep this journal as moody and sarcastic as any proper LiveJournal postings. I like to write, but I can't always promise to have correct grammar. This is after all, the ramblings of my inner thoughts...and only God can judge me. Just like that Simple Plan song. Or maybe it was Good Charlotte? I can't remember.

Anyway LiveJournal I'm writing to you because I want to talk about Donkey Kong 64. DK64 wasn't the original plan. The original plan was to play some Bayonetta however, upon further examination, I no longer own that game. I had 20 minutes until my scheduled stream time started, so I quickly looked around the room and my eyes fell upon the Wii U console. I had just bought DK64 for the Wii U and was currently playing through just for fun. I love DK64, it's one of my all time favorites, but I made a promise that I wouldn't stream it since so many of our viewers hated it. I made an offhand joke about streaming it, but Bryan latched on with a hearty laugh and said, "We're doing it!"

So there I was. Playing DK64 and while my heart filled with joy, I anticipated everyone's grief. I apologized profusely to anyone who popped up in the chat, but no one really complained. But I was very nervous for one particular individual - that individual being Skipper, one of our top moderators. I knew once he came into the room the jig would be up. And sure enough, he came in and blasted me with a wave of, 'What is this?'. I could feel the look of disappointment in his eyes...much like the disappointment in my father's eyes. But luckily Bryan was there to distract everyone with bananas. Lots and lots of bananas. I was finally starting to have fun.

The beginning levels didn't give me too much trouble, I had played them a hundred times before, but the camera was a little off for the Wii U, plus I wasn't able to play with the N64 controller. That controller just fits in my hand, it just feels right. The Wii U game pad is big and bulky and doable, but not my favorite. I had planned on only playing DK64 this one time since it was an emergency, and pick up the next week with something everyone kinda liked. But everyone was goofing off and having a great time (I guess) until low and behold, Louis, came down from the heavens like an angel and donated $80 so that I would continue to play this game until the end of the month (or until I beat it). What a kind and generous man! I've decided to write a haiku in his honor.

Louis is the best!
Louis is my favorite guy!
Here's to you Louis!

And because I don't know how to end things, here's another haiku about Donkey Kong 64.

DK64
The best game ever made, yes?
I think so, fuck you.

I can't wait until this Thursday, LiveJournal, when I get to play more and tell you about it...and actually remember what really happened.

Until then,
your friend,
Brittany Saturn
